Cycling is very popular in the US, so there are many great cycling events that you can take part in. If you live in the US, you are in luck. However, if you are overwhelmed by the grand choice, we’ve chosen several best cycling events that you should be looking at.
Tour of California
This cycling event takes place in California, as the name suggests. It lasts from the middle of May, until the end of the month. Therefore, it is the best part of the year for cycling. The race has been designed by Carmichael Training Systems. The great thing about it is that you will be racing alongside the pros. The ride is fully supported and you will stay in the same accommodation as the pros. It’s a unique experience.
Dirty Kanza 200
This race takes place in Flint Hills Region of Kanzas and it happens the first Saturday after Memorial Day, in May. The race has grown significantly over the years and now there are usually more than 1500 participants at the starting line. The terrain is what makes this race special as the whole race is ridden on gravel. If 200 miles is too much for you right now, you can try your luck in the 100-mile version of the race.
Tour of Battenkill
This is another race that happens in May, the most popular time for cycling. It takes place in Greenwich, New York, and is also known as America’s Queen of Classics. During the race, you will be taken deep into the backcountry and experience raw America. Cycle through villages, farms, historical points, and much more. It is also known as one of the biggest competitive amateur/pro cycling races in the States.
Race Across America
Once you are finished with the cycling events in May, in June you can enroll in the Race Across America. This is the real test of the fittest as it covers more than 3,000 miles, 170,000 feet of elevation gain, and 12 states. Even though you need to cover huge distances, you only have 12 days to do that. Therefore, this race should definitely be on the bucket list of any dedicated cycling enthusiast.
Mt. Tam Century Ride
You can have some more than needed rest from the Race Across America and in August you can set out to conquer the Mt. Tam Century Ride. This race takes place in Marin County in California and is known as the most beautiful ride in Northern California. You start on the coast and the race takes you on some of the most beautiful climbs in the country. You will need to do a lot of climbing to finish this event, but it is worth it since you will be rewarded with some spectacular views.
